The meeting The Cognitive Dimension of Contemporary Security addresses one of the most relevant issues in the current debate on security: the role of cognitive, informational and communicative factors in shaping threats, collective perceptions and public decision-making processes.
Contemporary security no longer concerns only military, institutional or technological dimensions. It also involves the capacity of democratic societies to interpret complex information, resist forms of manipulation, understand changes in the international landscape and protect the quality of the public sphere. From this perspective, the cognitive dimension becomes a key field for analysing the relationship between public opinion, institutions, strategic communication, democratic resilience and security policies.
The event will be introduced and chaired by Alessandro Sterpa, University of Tuscia and Coordinator of the Doctoral Programme, and will feature contributions by Sabrina Magris, President of the École Universitaire Internationale, and Teresa Coratella, Deputy Director and Policy Fellow at the Rome Office of the European Council on Foreign Relations. The meeting will provide an interdisciplinary forum for discussion on the transformation of contemporary security and on the implications of the cognitive dimension for institutions, democracies and the European and international context.
